CHARLOTTE, N.C. - CPI Security proudly provided funding for the first drone at the Steele Creek Fire Department in Charlotte, N.C.

The Carolina-based smart home and business security company presented a check of more than $11,000 to the Steele Creek Fire Department, which allowed them to purchase its first drone. The drone features thermal technology which can be useful to firefighters as they conduct search and rescue operations.

“At CPI, we’re committed to providing our customers and community with the latest technology that saves lives and protects property,” Chief Product Officer Steve Butkovich said. “We’re excited to see how this drone makes a difference in our community.”

Steele Creek Fire Chief Chris Hardin says the new technology will greatly strengthen its water-rescue operations on Lake Wylie and expand its land search and rescue capabilities.

“This drone is a game-changer for our water and land rescue operations. We sincerely thank CPI for their support and for investing in the safety of our community,” Hardin said.

The fire department recently hosted a FAA Part 107 drone pilot certification class in which 12 firefighters became certified.
